Misc. Notes
Served as a regent under three reigns: his father (King Robert II), his brother (King Robert III) and his nephew (King James I).
His father made him the Duke of Albany in 1398.
The name Albany is derived from the Gaelic word "Albainn", and signified Scotland, so that in effect Robert was created Duke of Scotland.
He was suspected of murdering his nephew, David, Duke of Rothesay, heir to the throne. The prince (David) was appointed Regent of Scotland in place of his uncle (Robert) and it was supposed that the Duke of Albany (Robert) wanted to regain the office for himself. There was grave suspicion that Albany purposely caused negotiations for the return of King James I from England to break down, so that he could continue to rule the kingdom.

NOTES: Later, Duke of Albany and Governor of Scotland.
